Hotel Indigo
Michael and I have favorite places to stay in San Antonio, so why you may ask, don’t we keep going back to the same one? Well, we do—often. But I’m also curious, so I threw the proverbial dart one more time which was supposed to be for a one-night stay that turned into two and finally found us booked for four nights at the Hotel Indigo on the San Antonio River.
Location
It is ideally located for some of the things we want to do—around the corner or across the river from the Tobin Center. A quiet, winding walk along the river for others. Down the street from even more. There is a lot on our agenda for the next four days—I really do think I need better shoes.

Checking-in
First things first. We check-in. Of course, I have confused everyone by continually adding on to our stay, but things are untangled and the room we are assigned is a spacious suite on the ground floor. Booking a suite in one of the premier hotels, located in the center of all of the action, would be cost prohibitive, but this one is more than reasonable and I am happy with the expansive space, and the fact that they have good pillows and bedside tables for both Michael and me to use. I have found that this isn’t always the case.

The Suite
There is a Keurig single cup server in the bar area, with a supply of coffee—both regular and decaffeinated—and tea pods for us to use. There is a small table and two chairs for dining or using our laptop, a large TV in both the living area and the bedroom area, and two comfortable club chairs to sit in. Before unpacking, I request extra blankets. Much to Michael’s chagrin, I always need extra blankets. (Is there a smiley face emoji around here somewhere please?)
Exiting the hotel through the restaurant area in order to access the Riverwalk, I notice the circular bar filled with people and the restaurant devoid of diners. Well, it is only 5 p.m., which gives us an hour and a half to meander down the walkway adjacent to the river before the festivities start for Confucius Wishing Lanterns festival.

The Particulars
Hotel Indigo, part of the IHG (InterContinental Hotel Group) includes a diverse variety of hotels that span the globe. The Hotel Indigo is a boutique hotel along the Museum Reach portion of the San Antonio River, in between the museum district and the very busy loop area that ultimately leads to the River Center.

Reminiscent of an old Spanish-style villa, there is a lovely terrace above the river, and exercise center. You will be hard pressed to find anything on their Bridges Bar and Bistro on their website or with a Google search, but be assured it does exist. The bar area is a fun place to gather and the food that we enjoyed at the restaurant was tasty, well prepared, and for San Antonio, reasonably priced.

If you want quiet, reasonably priced rooms, easy access to the Tobin Center, and easy in and out, this is the hotel for you. The staff is responsive to all needs, valet parking a breeze—hardly any waiting—or you can park the car yourself in the lot across the street from the hotel.
