At the edge of downtown Victoria, in the venerable old Historic District, sits Timeless Serenity B&B. Yes, it is a bed and a breakfast, but it is more than that. It is your very own private escape to a quieter simpler life. A life where traffic hardly exists. A life where you can wave as the neighbors walk their dogs while you sit on the front porch in a charming white rocker. Streets where you can walk. A backyard where you can sit and listen to the birds.

Approaching our temporary early week retreat prompts Michael to say, “It looks just like my grandfather’s house.” Following him through the door, he exclaims again, “The layout is even the same—except this is more open. Modernized.”
Not really wanting to cook during this short trip I’m delighted when I walk into the kitchen and see the welcome assortment of baked goods. On the tiny kitchen island under clear glass domes are enough muffins and cookies to see us through our stay. I peek into the refrigerator where an assortment of juice and bottled water greets me. The freezer contains a selection of breakfast pastries to cook. A bowl full of ice cubes for our immediate use is an amazing gift. Unexpected and welcome.
Over the bed of the charming sleeping quarters hangs words that touch my heart—The Best Place To Be Is Together. What a lovely reminder to cherish the moment.
The bathroom is huge and modern. There is a light and airy office space off the living and dining area, and everywhere there are sayings that make you stop and think about smelling the proverbial roses. Sit Long. Talk Much. Laugh Often.
I discover the second bathroom and a large utility room. And the loveliest of surprises—two bicycles and a picnic basket! (How did I miss them? We walked right past the bicycles when we entered the house.) This place is wonderful. It appears serendipity has been working overtime on my behalf—I could live here!
Michael immediately grabs a cookie as he heads toward the office to set up our computer. Finished he plops on the loveseat and turns on the TV.
While unpacking, I start to plan. We are only a stone’s throw from the gorgeous old two-story mansions of yesteryear. Perhaps we can take a morning walk around the neighborhood and slowly absorb their beauty. And the city park is literally just around the corner. What can we do first? Visit the zoo? Explore the Rose Garden. Feed the ducks at the Duck Pond? Maybe we should just have a picnic. Or perhaps cocktails at the Pump House? Decisions. Decisions.
